An Eventful Day

Not only was it the last day of school, we also spent about 45 minutes in our tornado shelter this afternoon.  This was the second day in a row for the tornado sirens to go off!

Travis rushed home from the 8th grade assembly to tell me we needed to get the storm shelter open, "just in case."  A few minutes later, the neighbor lady, her two daughters and their dog came over and then the sirens went off.  Travis grabbed Mackenna from her nap and all of us girls headed down into the shelter.  Travis sat at the top of the stairs watching.  He did come halfway down the stairs one time, which I later found out was because of all the circulation he saw right above us.  Addison was crying the whole time and was terrified.  Mackenna was the calmest of us all!  She sat quietly, watching all of us, yawning and petting the dog.  I think she thought we were having a party in the basement!

The tornado started out as an F3 tornado southwest of us about 20 miles.  By the time it got close to us, it was a much smaller "rope" tornado.  Thankfully, it lifted up off the ground right outside of town.  There was a church that had significant damage and several homes that were destroyed.  The cities main water well was also hit, so we have been asked to ration our water until they can get it fixed.  We are extremely thankful that no one lost their life and that we still have a home.  Below are some videos of the tornadoes taken by people in the area.

I still have memories of sitting under my dad's workbench in the basement waiting for the house to blow away - I was terrified too!
So thankful you're all okay. Somehow sounds worse when you write about it than when Travis told me - he makes it sound like just another event in the day! Well, this was a BIG event! Hope your vacation is going well.
