Medical bills have been coming in almost every day at our house. Between Mackenna and myself, we have both met our individual deductibles this year. It's amazing how we started the year with no health problems, so we knocked back the amount taken out of Travis' check and put into our flex plan. And then within the first 3 months of the year, the money in our flex plan is all used up!
Anyhow, we finally got the bill from Children's Hospital the other day for Mackenna. Thankfully, we have money in savings and are able to pay it, so Travis called them to see if they gave any discounts if we paid the bill in full. (When Addison was born, the hospital told us they would give us a discount if we paid the bill in full, which is why we thought of this.) So after putting Travis on hold for a little bit, the lady told him they would take 20% off our bill if we paid it in full! We were able to save about $500!!
He called one other hospital a few years ago and asked them the same thing and the lady laughed at him. This time though, it was totally worth it to ask!
