Opening at School

At Addison's school, they have an opening every single morning.  All of the students and teachers gather in the middle of the school and the students lead them in a flag salute, announcements, etc.  They start the year with a group of 5th graders leading opening and work their way down to the 1st graders.

Addison's turn was a few weeks ago.  She picked the part of asking, "Teachers do you have any announcements? Mr. Van Meter do you have any announcements?  The teacher who will put all-star papers on Mr. Van Meter's bulletin board today is...."  She picked that part because she got to draw a teachers' name from the bucket each day.  It's a lot of fun to watch and a great way to let every kid have a part in participating and leading the school.

The students recite this every day, even the kindergartners!
 asking for announcements...
drawing a name from the bucket...
Each week they do a different cheer at the end, this week it was the Silent Cheer!
On Friday, while the students are coming in, the leaders get to do the limbo.

I'm so glad I got to be there to see this. It was really fun and Addison is so polished. Great things in store for her I'm sure.
