Travis and His Moped

Since we moved here, Travis has been riding his moped everywhere. He thinks it's the greatest thing ever and takes a lot of pride in it. I must say, as dorky as he may look, it really helps to save on gas since it gets about 80 miles per gallon. About our second week of living here, we remembered just what it's like to live in a small town again. Travis left for work at about 8:30 in the morning on his moped and was going to do a few errands on his way to work. As he was driving down Main Street, he suddenly noticed a cop car behind him with his lights flashing. Turns out, he was pulling Travis over. It was a Highway Patrol car and the officer motioned for Travis to come get in the car. (Keep in mind, Main Street is a happening spot in our little town.) He got into the passenger seat and the cop asked Travis if he knew why he pulled him over. Travis said no. He asked for his license and insurance and then asked Travis if he had a motorcycle license. Travis told him he didn't have one and that he didn't need one since his moped isn't over 50 cc's. The cop said, "Oh, well I guess that's right." He then proceeded to ask Travis who he was, where he was going, where did he move here from, and on and on. Well, he finally told Travis the reason he pulled him over was because he wasn't wearing "proper eye protection." He ended up writing him a warning. I think he actually just pulled him over because he wanted to know who this strange guy was riding a little orange moped around town. After getting his warning, he rode home to get his "proper eye protection" (sunglasses) and then went on to church. When he got to the church, he was informed they had already had two phone calls about his "incident." One of the calls was from a man at our church who works downtown. He called the church and said, "I'm looking out my front window here on Main Street and you'll never believe what I'm looking at! Our new youth pastor is sitting in a police car!"
These pictures are old, but they give you the idea. In Oregon it was the law that you had to wear a helmet (I wish it was everywhere), so the second picture shows him wearing his helmet that looks like a black olive on his head!

It's not Travis' fault he looks out of place in his moped. He's just living on the wrong side of the world. He'd fit in great in Brazil...or Italy...or India...or wherever it is they drive around on those itty bitty things!
