Advent Christmas Devotionals

Each year, I try to find something special and meaningful to do leading up to Christmas day.
Something that will prepare our hearts and teach our girls the true meaning of Christmas.
This year, I stumbled upon Truth in the Tinsel.
It is a daily advent series that is made for younger children, although I'm sure it would be great for older children too.
It consists of 24 daily activities that include Bible readings, questions to talk about, extension activities and a craft ornament they can make that goes along with the reading.

So far, my girls have loved it!
Addison has asked some great questions and is very interested in what we read.
Mackenna listens to the story, but I think she loves the ornaments the most.

If you're interested, check out their website.
It comes as an ebook, so you can download it right away.

Happy Mail!

I always look forward to getting the mail each day.
Excited to see what might be waiting for me!
Dissapointed when it's only bills or junk mail.
I've always enjoyed receiving letters and cards in the mail.
My mom is a great letter/card writer.
Our girls get mail from her several times a month.
They love it!

Anyhow...yesterday was a good mail day!
I am really excited to start this book.
I've heard great things about it.
I watched the trailer for it and had tears running down my face.

I also got this print that I ordered.
It was a free printable from this blog.
It cost about $5 to print it and a $5 frame from Hobby Lobby.
Love when people share things they've made!

Todays mail...not so happy!
One Victoria's Secret catalog that I threw straight into the recycling bin.

Pinkaliscious Party

Addison had her first ever "friend" birthday party today!
It was a lot of fun and very pink!  One of her favorite books right now is "Pinkaliscious."  She has the whole thing memorized, word for word.  I read it to them at the beginning of the party and then we played pin the cherry on the cupcake.  The girls decorated their own pink cupcakes, had pink ice cream and drank pink lemonade.  The girls giggled and giggled when they saw Travis in all his pink!

The Help

Have you read "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett?
It's an excellent book.
The movie was good too, but of course, not as good as the book!

Blueberries for Sal

This was my favorite book when I was a child.  I still have my old worn-out copy of it.  I loved the pictures and I loved the story.  I really need to get a new copy of the book so I won't worry so much about it falling apart when my girls read it!  What was your favorite book as a child?

Pinkalicious - read by Addison

Addison got Pinkalicious and Purplicious in her book order at the end of school.  It came with a read along CD and she's listened to it so much, she has most of the first one memorized.  She and Mackenna love to lay on her bed listening to it, each of them with book in hand.  Addison wanted me to video her so she could read it to her cousin, so this is for you Sonora!

How Full is Your Bucket?

A friend of mine mentioned this book on her blog awhile back.
I thought it would be a good one to read with Addison since she is starting school.
It shows us that we all have imaginary buckets that are either filled or taken from all the time.
When we are kind to others, we "fill their buckets."
A great book on how to treat others.

Addison came home from school today and said this:
"Mommy, when I was coloring today, my teacher came up behind me and told me I was a really good worker."
"Hey mom...when my teacher told me that, I felt some drops go into my bucket!"

It made me smile to know that she's thinking about it!
Hopefully she (and myself included) will continue to learn and work at filling the buckets of those around us everyday.
